The project focused on preserving the architectonic integrity of the building while incorporating the comforts of modern technology. The residence consists of a 3-story house with a living room on each floor, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, library and a separate caretaker’s house outside. The use of new technologies associated with those used in the original construction were applied to strengthen the structure. Air cushions were created under the new ground floor reinforced concrete slabs to isolate it from the existing humid conditions. All the original european pine stairs, floors, windows and ceilings were restored. A new bathroom was built on the 3rd floor with skylights, supported by 2 steel tie beams anchored to the roof trusses. A sunroom was installed adjoining the kitchen to provide thermal comfort. A new leisure area was designed and built with glass doors, an Italian wood–fired pizza oven, including an inside and outside fishpond separated by tempered glass.
